Hair Crush; Chloe x Halle

There has been a lot of buzz around the Bailey sisters, following the announcement that Halle will play Ariel in the live action remake of The Little Mermaid (squeals with excitement)

The Bailey sisters are a musical duo from Atlanta,Georgia. They got their start posting covers on youtube, which is where a very famous singer you may have heard of called Beyoncé discovered them. They have since been creating beautiful music under her label Parkwood Entertainment. Even touring with her OTRII tour.

I could go on and on about these two (I have a general girl crush, not just a hair crush guys .. seriously they're insane singers and seem like the kindest humans ever) but this article is about celebrating their gorgeous locs! (though I will link one of their songs and socials at the bottom)

Both of the Bailey sisters have gorgeous locs, which they wear in an endless variety of hairstyles, bringing about serious #hairgoals.

But seriously,what are dreadlocks?

Natural dreadlocks are formed by binding individual strands of hair together, in uniform sizes or in the case of free form locs; different sizes. Some of the methods used to form locs include twisting and back combing.A binding agent is often used to keep the locs intact, such as dread wax.

Versatility

If there is one thing we can take away from the Bailey sister's hair; dreadlocks are not boring. They have demonstrated the versatility of dreadlocks by wearing their locs curled, straight, in buns, space buns, low ponytails and just about every style you can wear your hair. Dreadlocks can be worn simply as they are, or manipulated to create an endless array of hairstyles.

Red carpet ready

Dreadlocks are glamorous.Truth is the idea of dreadlocks doesn't always conjure up beautiful, awe inspiring images such as the ones below and above. Dreadlocks and consequently people who wear them, are still subjected to a host of negative stereotypes.People (read ignorant people) still associate locs with being untidy, unprofessional and even drug use. All these were demonstrated by Giuliana Rancic's infamous comments on Zendaya's faux locs. (Which she has since apologized for ..)

Below is a perfect example of just how glamorous and red carpet ready dreadlocks can be.

As with all other ways of wearing afro hair; dreadlocks get their share of hate. But one thing that cannot be denied, their unparalleled beauty. The Bailey sisters serve just one example of that.Just by being themselves and wearing their hair however they choose to, they shatter eurocentric ideas of what 'pretty', 'presentable and 'professional hair is. Which is why they are my (and I hope yours too) hair crush. As promised, a link to one of their songs:
