Curly Hair Routine; Wash Day Guide.

Washing your hair seems pretty straight forward; A little shampoo, a little conditioner and you’re good to go right? Wrong! (lol). Washing Afro hair (curly/coily hair) requires a little bit more than that.Let’s get straight into it! Once again, all featured products will be listed below (availability etc). Frequency.

This is also another area a lot of us get it wrong when it comes to hair care. Ideally, afro hair should be washed once every week. We don’t need to wash our hair every day like those with super straight hair as ours doesn’t get dirty as fast (sebum is often what causes hair to get greasy and dirty, in type 3 to 4 hair sebum doesn’t travel all the way down due to the shape of the hair strands, Ironically this is the same reason our hair can get very dry.)

Step One

The first step to washing your hair is actually to oil it, yup, apply oil before washing. Curly hair tends to be quite dry already so the last thing you want to do is strip it of all moisture even as you wash it.To prevent this, apply a generous amount of the oil of your choice on your hair and wait at least 30 -40 mins before washing, some people leave the oil on overnight and wash it out in the morning.

Step Two

Divide your hair into at least 4 sections (trust me, you’ll need to do this),you may then apply a sulfate free shampoo of your choice onto your scalp ,make sure you apply shampoo to your scalp only. Your hair will get clean as the shampoo and water run down it, shampooing the actual hair may cause really bad tangles.

Step Three

Thoroughly rinse out the shampoo then apply a generous amount of conditioner to your hair,(avoid getting conditioner on your scalp as this can cause build up) grab a wide tooth comb (or you can just use your hands) and detangle from your ends upwards, slowly combing out tangles as you work your way up to the roots of your hair. Keep adding conditioner until the comb or your fingers slip through your hair strands without hitting any knots.

Step Four

After thoroughly rinsing out your conditioner, apply a deep conditioner into your hair, this restores moisture, adds shine and leaves your hair incredibly soft. Deep conditioning should be done once a week for healthy, strong hair. Most packages indicate how long the deep conditioner is to stay in the hair.

Finally, Rinse your hair thoroughly and L.O.C , afterwards you can style it.
